Give of Your Best to the Master

Give of Your Best to the Master
Text written by Howard B. Grose (1851-1939)
Sung to the hymn tune BARNARD, composed by Charlotte A. Barnard (1830-1869)

Matthew 22:37 He said to him, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind."

V. 1 Give of your best to the Master,
Give of the strength of your youth;
Throw your soul's fresh, glowing ardor
Into the battle for truth.
Jesus has set the example--
Dauntless was He, young and brave;
Give Him your loyal devotion,
Give Him the best that you have.

Numbers 18:29 You must present the entire offering due the Lord from all your gifts. The best part of the tenth is to be consecrated.

Refrain: Give of your best to the Master,
Give of the strength of your youth;
Clad in salvation's full armor,
Join in the battles for truth.

Exodus 32:29 Afterward Moses said, “Today you have been dedicated to the Lord, since each man went against his son and his brother. Therefore you have brought a blessing on yourselves today.”

Luke 7:38 [Mary] stood behind Him at His feet, weeping, and began to wash His feet with her tears. She wiped His feet with the hair of her head, kissing them and anointing them with the fragrant oil.

John 3:16 “For God loved the world in this way: He gave His One and Only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life."

V. 2 Give of your best to the Master,
Give Him first place in your heart;
Give Him first place in your service,
Consecrate every part.
Give, and to you shall be given--
God His beloved Son gave;
Gratefully seeking to serve Him,
Give Him the best that you have.
Refrain

Mark 10:45 "For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life — a ransom for many.”

Philippians 2:8 He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death — even to death on a cross.

V. 3 Give of your best to the Master,
Naught else is worthy His love;
He gave Himself for your ransom,
Gave up His glory above;
Laid down His life without murmur,
You from sin's ruin to save;
Give Him your heart's adoration,
Give Him the best that you have.
Refrain
