Far and Near the Fields Are Teeming

Far and Near the Fields Are Teeming
Text written in 1885 by J. O. Thompson
Sung to HARVEST, composed in 1895 by J. B. O. Clemm

John 4:35 Don’t you have a saying, "It’s still four months until harvest"? I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest.

V. 1 Far and near the fields are teeming
With the sheaves of ripened grain;
Far and near their gold is gleaming
O'er the sunny slope and plain.

Matthew 9:38 Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.

Refrain: Lord of harvest, send forth reapers!
Hear us, Lord, to Thee we cry;
Send them now the sheaves to gather,
Ere the harvestime pass by.

Ecclesiastes 11:6 Sow your seed in the morning, and at evening let your hands not be idle, for you do not know which will succeed, whether this or that, or whether both will do equally well.

V. 2 Send them forth with morn's first beaming,
Send them in the noon-tide's glare;
When the sun's last rays are streaming,
Bid them gather everywhere.
Refrain

Psalm 126:5 Those who sow with tears will reap with songs of joy.

V. 3 O thou, whom thy Lord is sending,
Gather now the sheaves of gold;
Heavenward then at evening wending
Thou shalt come with joy untold.
Refrain
