Lord, I'm Coming Home

Lord, I'm Coming Home
Text and tune written in 1902 by William J. Kirkpatrick (1838-1921)

Luke 15:18, 20 I will set out and go back to my father and say to him: Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you....So he got up and went to his father. “But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him.

V. 1 I've wandered far away from God,
Now I'm coming home;
The paths of sin too long I've trod;
Lord, I'm coming home.

Refrain: Coming home, coming home
Nevermore to roam;
Open wide Thine arms of love;
Lord, I'm coming home.

V. 2 I've wasted many precious years,
Now I'm coming home;
I now repent with bitter tears;
Lord, I'm coming home.
Refrain

V. 3 I'm tired of sin and straying, Lord,
Now I'm coming home;
I'll trust Thy love, believe Thy word;
Lord, I'm coming home.
Refrain

Galations 2:20 I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

V. 4 My only hope, my only plea,
Now I'm coming home;
That Jesus died, and died for me;
Lord, I'm coming home.
Refrain

Isaiah 1:18 “Come now, let us settle the matter,”
says the Lord.
“Though your sins are like scarlet,
they shall be as white as snow;
though they are red as crimson,
they shall be like wool."

1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

V. 5 I need His cleansing blood I know,
Now I'm coming home;
O wash me whiter than the snow;
Lord, I'm coming home.
Refrain
