I Sing the Mighty Power of God
Text by Isaac Watts (1674-1748)
Sung to the tune VARINA
Genesis 1:6, 9, 16 Then God commanded, “Let there be a dome to divide the water and to keep it in two separate places”—and it was done. Then God commanded, “Let the water below the sky come together in one place, so that the land will appear”—and it was done. So God made the two larger lights, the sun to rule over the day and the moon to rule over the night; he also made the stars.
V. 1 I sing the might power of God,
That made the mountains rise,
That made the mountains rise,
That spread the flowing seas abroad,
And built the lofty skies;
I sing the wisdom that ordained
The sun to rule the day;
The moon shines full at His command,
And all the stars obey.
Psalm 104:14, 24 You make grass grow for the cattle and plants for us to use, so that we can grow our crops. Lord, you have made so many things! How wisely you made them all! The earth is filled with your creatures.
Genesis 1:24,25 Then God commanded, “Let the earth produce all kinds of animal life: domestic and wild, large and small”—and it was done. So God made them all, and he was pleased with what he saw.
V. 2 I sing the goodness of the Lord,
That filled the earth with food;
He formed the creatures with His word,
And then pronounced them good.
Lord, how Thy wonders are displayed
Where-e'er I turn my eye!
If I survey the ground I tread,
Or gaze upon the sky!
Psalm 104:27 All of them depend on you to give them food when they need it.
Psalm 107:25 He commanded, and a mighty wind began to blow and stirred up the waves.
Psalm 139:7 Where could I go to escape from you? Where could I get away from your presence?
V. 3 There's not a plant or flower below
But makes Thy glories known;
And clouds arise, and tempests blow,
By order from Thy throne.
Creatures that borrow life from Thee
Are subject to Thy care;
There's not a place where we can flee
But God is present there.
