Live Out Thy Life Within Me
Text written by Frances Ridley Havergal (1836-1879)
Sung to the hymn tune AURELIA, composed in 1864 by Samuel Wesley (1810-1876)
Matthew 5:16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
V. 1 Live out Thy life within me,
O Jesus, King of kings!
Be Thou Thyself the answer
To all my questionings;
Live out Thy life within me,
In all things have Thy way!
I, the transparent medium
Thy glory to display.
Exodus 40:24 He placed the lampstand in the tent of meeting opposite the table on the south side of the tabernacle.
1 Corinthians 6:19 Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own.
V. 2 The temple has been yielded,
And purified of sin;
Let Thy Shekinah glory
Now shine forth from within,
And all the earth keep silence,
The body henceforth be
Thy silent, gentle servant,
Moved only as by Thee.
V. 3 Its members every moment
Held subject to Thy call,
Ready to have Thee use them,
Or not be used at all;
Held without restless longing,
Or strain, or stress, or fret,
Or chafings at Thy dealings,
Or thoughts of vain regret.
Matthew 21:3 "If anyone says anything to you, say that the Lord needs them, and he will send them right away.”
1 Corinthians 12:20 As it is, there are many parts, but one body.
V. 4 But restful, calm, and pliant,
From bend and bias free,
Awaiting Thy decision,
When Thou has need of me.
Live out Thy life within me,
O Jesus, King of kings!
Be Thou the glorious answer
To all my questionings.
