Morning Has Broken
Text written by Eleanor Farjeon (1881-1965) in 1931
Sung to the hymn tune BUNESSAN (Traditional Gaelic Melody)
Genesis 1:5, 21 God named the light “day” and the darkness “night.” Evening passed, and morning came. This was the first day. So God created the large sea animals and every living thing that moves in the sea. The sea is filled with these living things, with each one producing more of its own kind. He also made every bird that flies, and each bird produced more of its own kind. God saw that this was good.
V. 1 Morning has broken
Like the first morning,
Blackbird has spoken
Like the first bird.
Praise for the singing!
Praise for the morning!
Praise for them springing
Fresh from the Word!
Genesis 2:6 but a mist would rise up from the earth and water all the ground.
V. 2 Sweet the rain's new fall
Sunlit from heaven,
Like the first dewfall
On the first grass.
Praise for the sweetness
Of the wet garden,
Sprung in completeness
Where His feet pass.
V. 3 Mine is the sunlight!
Mine is the morning
Born of the one light
Eden saw play!
Praise with elation,
Praise every morning,
God's recreation
Of the new day!
