Christ for the World
Text written in 1869 by Samuel Wolcott (1813-1886)
Sung to ITALIAN HYMN, composed in 1769 by Felice de Giardini (1716-1796)
Psalm 103:2, 3 Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits—
who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases.
1 Timothy 1:15 Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners—of whom I am the worst.
V. 1 Christ for the world we sing;
The world to Christ we bring
With loving zeal;
The poor and them that mourn,
The faint and overborne,
Sin-sick and sorrow-worn,
Whom Christ doth heal.
Luke 19:10 For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.
V. 2 Christ for the world we sing;
The world to Christ we bring
With fervent prayer;
The wayward and the lost,
By restless passions tossed,
Redeemed at countless cost
From dark despair.
1 Peter 1:23 For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God.
V. 3 Christ for the world we sing;
The world to Christ we bring
With joyful song;
The newborn souls, whose days,
Reclaimed from error's ways,
Inspired with hope and praise,
To Christ belong.
