Mine Eyes Have Seen the Glory

Mine Eyes Have Seen the Glory
Text written in 1861 by Julia Ward Howe (1819-1910)
Sung to BATTLE HYMN, arr. from camp meeting song

Isaiah 63:3 “I have trodden the winepress alone; from the nations no one was with me. I trampled them in my anger and trod them down in my wrath; their blood spattered my garments, and I stained all my clothing."

Matthew 24:30 Then will appear the sign of the Son of Man in heaven. And then all the peoples of the earth will mourn when they see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory.

V. 1 Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord;
He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored;
He has loosed the fateful lightning of His terrible swift sword;
His truth is marching on.

2 Corinthians 13:8 For we cannot do anything against the truth, but only for the truth.

Refrain: Glory! glory! Hallelujah!
Glory! glory! Hallelujah!
Glory! glory! Hallelujah!
His truth is marching on.

Daniel 5:27 Tekel: You have been weighed on the scales and found wanting.

Zechariah 9:14 Then the Lord will appear over them;
his arrow will flash like lightning.
The Sovereign Lord will sound the trumpet;
he will march in the storms of the south.

V. 2 He has sounded forth the trumpet that shall never call retreat;
He is sifting out the hearts of men before His judgement seat;
O be swift, my soul, to answer Him; be jubilant, my feet!
Our God is marching on.
Refrain

Luke 2:11 Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.

V. 3 In the beauty of the lilies Christ was born across the sea,
With a glory in His bosom that transfigures you and me;
As He died to make men holy, let us live to make men free!
While God is marching on.
Refrain
