Christ, Whose Glory Fills the Skies
Text written by Charles Wesley (1707-1788)
Sung to RATISBON, from J. G. Werner's "Choralbuch, 1815" arranged by W. H. Monk (1823-1889)
Malachi 4:2 But for you who revere my name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its rays. And you will go out and frolic like well-fed calves.
John 1:9 The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world.
2 Peter 1:19 We also have the prophetic message as something completely reliable, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.
V. 1 Christ, whose glory fills the skies,
Christ, the true, the only light,
Sun of Righteousness, arise,
Triumph o'er the shades of night;
Dayspring from on high, be near;
Daystar, in my heart appear.
V. 2 Dark and cheerless is the morn
Unaccompanied by Thee;
Joyless is the day's return
Till Thy mercy's beams I see;
Till they inward light impart,
Cheer my eyes and warm my heart.
Proverbs 4:19 But the way of the wicked is like deep darkness;
they do not know what makes them stumble.
V. 3 Visit, then, this soul of mine;
Pierce the gloom of sin and grief;
Fill me, Radiancy divine;
Scatter all my unbelief;
More and more Thyself display,
Shining to the perfect day.
