Unto the Hills

Sung to YOU YANGS, composed in 1984 by James Bingham (1945 - ?)
Psalm 121
I look up to the mountains; does my strength come from mountains?
No, my strength comes from God, who made heaven, and earth, and mountains.
He won’t let you stumble, your Guardian God won’t fall asleep.
Not on your life! Israel’s Guardian will never doze or sleep.
God’s your Guardian, right at your side to protect you—
Shielding you from sunstroke, sheltering you from moonstroke.
God guards you from every evil, he guards your very life.
He guards you when you leave and when you return,
He guards you now, He guards you always.
V. 1 Unto the hills around shall I lift up my longing eyes?
O whence for me shall my salvation come, from whence arise?
From God the Lord doth come my certain aid,
From God the Lord, who heav'n and earth hath made.
V. 2 He will not suffer that thy foot be moved; safe shalt Thou be.
No careless slumber shall His eyelids close, who keepeth thee.
Behold our God, the Lord, He slumbereth ne'er,
Who keepeth Israel in His holy care.
V. 3 Jehovah is Himself thy keeper true, thy changeless shade.
Jehovah thy defense on thy right hand Himself hath made.
And thee no sun by day shall ever smite,
No moon shall harm thee in the silent night.
V. 4 From every evil shall He keep thy soul, from every sin;
Jehovah shall preserve thy going out, they coming in.
Above thee watching, He, whom we adore,
Shall keep thee henceforth, yea, forevermore.
