Give to the Winds Your Fears
Text written in 1653 by Paul Gerhardt (1607-1676), translated in 1739 by John Wesley (1703-1791)
Sung to ST. BRIDE, composed in 1762 by Samuel Howard (1710-1781)
Psalm 3:3 But you, Lord, are a shield around me, my glory, the One who lifts my head high.
V. 1 Give to the winds your fears;
In hope be undismayed:
God hears your sighs and counts your tears,
God shall lift up your head.
Psalm 37:5 Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him and he will do this.
V. 2 To Him commit your griefs;
Your ways put in His hands--
To His sure truth and tender care
Who earth and heaven commands.
V. 3 O put your trust in God;
In duty's path go on.
Walk in His strength with faith and hope,
So shall your work be done.
Psalm 89:13 Your arm is endowed with power;
your hand is strong, your right hand exalted.
V. 4 Leave to His sovereign sway
To choose and to command;
So you shall, faithful, seek His way--
How wise, how strong His hand!
