The Strife Is O'er

The Strife Is O'er
Latin Hymn, c. 1695, transcribed by Francis Pott (1832-1909)
Sung to VICTORY, composed by Giovanni P. da Palestrina (1525-1594)

Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!

V. 1 The strife is o'er, the battle done;
Now is the victor's triumph won!
Now be the song of praise begun.
Alleluia!

Luke 22:53 Every day I was with you in the temple courts, and you did not lay a hand on me. But this is your hour—when darkness reigns.

V. 2 The pow'rs of death have done their worst,
But Christ their legions has dispersed.
Let shouts of holy joy outburst.
Alleluia!

Luke 24:6 He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee.

V. 3 The three sad days have quickly sped,
He rises glorious from the dead.
All glory to our risen head!
Alleluia!

1 Corinthians 15:55 “Where, O death, is your victory?
Where, O death, is your sting?”

Revelation 19:1 After this I heard what sounded like the roar of a great multitude in heaven shouting: “Hallelujah! Salvation and glory and power belong to our God.

V. 4 Lord, by the stripes which wounded You,
From death's sting free Your servants too,
That we may live and sing to You.
Alleluia!

Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!
