O Worship the King
Text written in 1833 by Robert Grant (1779-1838)
Sung to LYONS, from "Wm. Gardiner's Sacred Melodies, 1815"
Psalm 59:9, 11 I will keep watch for You, my strength,
because God is my stronghold. Do not kill them; otherwise, my people will forget. By Your power, make them homeless wanderers and bring them down,
Lord, our shield.
Daniel 7:9 As I kept watching, thrones were set in place, and the Ancient of Days took His seat. His clothing was white like snow, and the hair of His head like whitest wool. His throne was flaming fire; its wheels were blazing fire.
V. 1 O worship the King, all-glorious above,
O gratefully sing His wonderful love;
Our shield and defender, the Ancient of days,
Pavilioned in splendor, and girded with praise.
Psalm 104:1-3 My soul, praise Yahweh! Lord my God, You are very great; You are clothed with majesty and splendor. He wraps Himself in light as if it were a robe, spreading out the sky like a canopy, laying the beams of His palace
on the waters above, making the clouds His chariot, walking on the wings of the wind.
V. 2 O tell of His might, O sing of His grace,
Whose robe is the light, whose canopy space;
His chariots of wrath the deep thunderclouds form,
And dark is His path on the wings of the storm.
Psalm 104:10 He causes the springs to gush into the valleys; they flow between the mountains.
V. 3 Thy bountiful care, what tongue can recite?
It breathes in the air, it shines in the light;
It streams from the hills, it descends to the plain,
And sweetly distills in the dew and the rain.
Psalm 103:14 For He knows what we are made of, remembering that we are dust.
V. 4 Frail children of dust, and feeble as frail,
In Thee do we trust, nor find Thee to fail;
Thy mercies, how tender! how firm to the end!
Our Maker, Defender, Redeemer, and Friend!
