Praise, My Soul, the King of Heaven
Text written by Henry Francis Lyte (1793-1847)
Sung to LAUDIA ANIMA, composed by John Goss (1800-1880)
Psalm 136:26 Give thanks to the God of heaven. His love endures forever.
V. 1 Praise, my soul, the King of heaven;
To His feet thy tribute bring;
Ransomed, healed, restored, forgiven,
Who like thee His praise should sing?
Praise Him, praise Him, alleluia,
Praise the everlasting King.
Psalm 103:9 He will not always accuse, nor will he harbor his anger forever.
V. 2 Praise Him for His grace and favor
To our fathers in distress;
Praise Him, still the same forever,
Slow to chide and swift to bless;
Praise Him, praise Him, alleluia,,
Glorious in His faithfulness.
Psalm 103:14 For he knows how we are formed,
he remembers that we are dust.
V. 3 Tenderly He shields and spares us;
Well our feeble frame He knows;
In His hands He gently bears us,
Rescues us from all our foes:
Praise Him, praise Him, alleluia,
Widely as His mercy flows.
Psalm 103:20 Praise the Lord, you his angels, you mighty ones who do his bidding, who obey his word.
Psalm 148:3 Praise him, sun and moon; praise him, all you shining stars.
V. 4 Angels, help us to adore Him:
Ye behold Him face to face;
Sun and moon bow down before Him:
Dwellers all in time and space,
Praise Him, praise Him, alleluia,
Praise with us the God of grace.
