To God Be the Glory
Text written in 1875 by Fanny J. Crosby (1820-1915)
Hymn tune composed by William H. Doane (1832-1915)
Psalm 96:8 Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name;
bring an offering and come into his courts.
John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
Romans 5:16 Nor can the gift of God be compared with the result of one man’s sin: The judgment followed one sin and brought condemnation, but the gift followed many trespasses and brought justification.
V. 1 To God be the glory, great things He hath done;
So loved He the world that He gave us His Son,
Who yielded His life an atonement for sin,
And opened the life gate that all may go in.
Psalm 85:6 Will you not revive us again, that your people may rejoice in you?
Refrain: Praise the Lord, praise the Lord,
Let the earth hear His voice;
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord,
Let the people rejoice;
O come to the Father, through Jesus the Son,
And give Him the glory, great things He hath done.
Revelation 5:9 And they sang a new song, saying: “You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slain, and with your blood you purchased for God persons from every tribe and language and people and nation.
V. 2 O perfect redemption, the purchase of blood,
To every believer the promise of God;
The vilest offender who truly believes,
That moment from Jesus a pardon receives.
Refrain
Psalm 126:3 The Lord has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy.
V. 3 Great things He hath taught us, great things He hath done,
And great our rejoicing through Jesus the Son;
But purer, and higher, and greater will be
Our wonder, our transport, when Jesus we see.
Refrain
