God the Omnipotent

God the Omnipotent
Text written in 1842 by Henry F. Chorley (1808-1872) and in 1870 by John Ellerton (1826-1893)
Sung to RUSSIAN HYMN, composed in 1833 by Alexis Lwoff (1799-1870)

Psalm 29:11 The Lord gives strength to his people; the Lord blesses his people with peace.

Psalm 104:3 The Lord...lays the beams of his upper chambers on their waters.

Revelation 19:6 Then I heard what sounded like a great multitude, like the roar of rushing waters and like loud peals of thunder, shouting: “Hallelujah!
For our Lord God Almighty reigns.

V. 1 God the Omnipotent! King, who ordainest
Great winds Thy clarions, the lightnings Thy sword;
Show forth Thy pity on high where Thou reignest,
Give to us peace, O most merciful Lord.

Psalm 103:17 But from everlasting to everlasting the Lord’s love is with those who fear him, and his righteousness with their children’s children—

V. 2 God the all-merciful! earth have forsaken
Thy precepts holy, and slighted Thy word;
Bid not Thy wrath in its terrors awaken;
Give to us peace, O most merciful Lord.

Psalm 119:137 You are righteous, Lord, and your laws are right.

V. 3 God the all-righteous One! man have defied Thee;
Yet to eternity standeth Thy word;
Falsehood and wrong shall not tarry beside Thee;
Prosper the right, O most merciful Lord.

Matthew 6:13 And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.

V. 4 So shall we render Thee thankful devotion,
For Thy deliverance from peril and sword,
Singing in chorus from ocean to ocean,
"Thine is the power and the glory, O Lord."
